Our History

1930s

During the Great Depression, struggling mechanics couldn’t afford the tools. Snap-on invented the needs list and the Revolving Account payment plan system used today to help mechanics to get the tools they need.

1950s

Snap-on continued to innovate in the booming auto industry. Snap-on delivered confidence to aviation mechanics with “tight-access” or “thin-wall” special application tools.

1970s

Snap-on launched a patented manufacturing breakthrough called “cold forming” making sockets stronger and more impact resistant.

1990s

Snap-on became the first mobile tool company in the U.S. to convert to a franchise operation. In 1994, Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Snap-on as the “top new franchise.”

2010s

Major enhancements to global network with introduction of Rock N’ Roll Express and Diagnostic Roadshows for franchisees.

1920s

Developed five unique handles and ten sockets that snapped on interchangeably, coined “Five do the work of Fifty,” launched a company that would shape an industry and would revolutionize repair and make work easier for professional mechanics.

1940s

Snap-on was essential to the war effort and produced tools that kept air and ground equipment operating.

1960s

Snap-on revolutionize and innovate the socket by creating the Flank Drive Wrenching System providing more turning power.

1980s

Snap-on opened the first Australian branch in 1988 located in Brisbane.

2000s

Snap-on Credit offers financing solutions to shop owners, technicians and franchisees. In 1999, Snap-on partnered with CIT to form a joint venture in 2009 this became a wholly owned subsidiary, enhancing services to both franchisees and customers.
